Posted by bridiegirl 05 Jul 2012 : 4:38:05 PM |
Hi I was born in Forfar but my family on my Mothers side are all from Arbroth. My Mother had 2 sisters and a brother. Their parents ran the fish and chip shop in Applegate in the 60s. Joe and his wife came over from Italy and joined his brother who also owned a fish and chip shop in Fishacre Arbroath. I would like any information or photographs of Applegate and especially the shop at number 1 Applegate. I have massive fond memories of my amazing grandparents who took me on many exciting day trips in the countryside and spoil me silly. Thanks for your help.

JESSIE JANE THOMSON FINLAYSON DORWARD - DIED IN ARBROATH, 1959 |

In 1901, Jessie married Wilson Millar Dorward in Brechin. It is possible she owned or worked in a hat shop, either in Arbroath or Brechin. Their son, Wilson Jr., married Agnes Boath McLeod. Wilson Jr. and Agnes had a daughter, Christine Dorward, born in Brechin, 1928. Christine married Robert MacNaughton and they had (at least) two sons, Ian b.1956 and Grant b.1963. Can anyone help in finding my second cousins, Ian and Grant? - Jerry Finlayson

Posted by TLee 14 Sep 2012 : 02:22:02 AM |
Robert Aiken my great grandfather was Police Inspector at Abroath Burgh Police at the time of his death on Jan 11, 1886. (pneumonia aged 48) Earlier census information list him as Police Constable, then Police Sargent.
Is there information available on police in Arbroath during the 1870- 1890 Photographs would be great.
I live in Sydney, Australia. Therefore do not have access to Scottish libraries.
Many thanks
